Chapter 2:
This chapter main focused on the different components of writing a narrative. It went through the different purposes of why one writes a narrative, who their audience is to be and so on. It then goes on to discuss the pathos, logos, and ethos of writing a narrative. The purpose of this chapter was to help the reader realize that when writing a narrative many different components play into the construction of the narrative. I think the chapter covered everything that was needed to be covered when discussing how and what to do when writing a narrative. I think one of the major parts was the section on the genre convention where it talked about the different aspects that make a piece of writing be considered a narrative. I think this is one of the more important parts because it allows the readers to fully realize that a narrative is not just a personal essay.
Chapter 4:
This chapter focuses on different persuasive genres. Basically, this whole chapter was the information behind ads. It discussed how each individual part of the writing process from the audience, the obvious purpose, to the individual parts of ethos, pathos, and logos are used to make a persuasive argument that is more likely to win over the intended audience. A chapter such as this is an important chapter because in a world so run by the internet it is important to know the different ways that companies and people will try to lure one into buying something. Knowing the factors that go in to making a persuasive genre will help when identify and writing.
Chapter 11:
This chapter focuses on Identity, at least according to the title. The researched argument was boring and long. At times it was interesting but, in the end, all it really did was tell me that I leave traces of myself. Little clues that give hints as to who I am as a person. In general, all the example texts that were given seemed long and unneeded. The entire chapter probably could have been summarized by being told that everything affects who you are as a person and that with every little thing you do, say, or own tell something about your character and that it is important to take note of that fact.
In general these three chapters, I felt, were important because in order to write a narrative or persuasive anything one must first have a concept of identity and understand how identity affects the process for the two types of genre that are mentioned here. One can not write a narrative without a sense of identity, and one can not write a persuasive genre without understanding the different ways that person can be persuaded.
